World Copyright Summit 2011
Information from UFMC, FFACE & ECSA about the World Copyright Summit 2011
What is the World Summit 2011 Copyright?
In 2005, during the creation of UFMC Switzerland - Union of composers of film music for film, audiovisual and multimedia, a small group of composers who were present had dreamed of a day when the creators could be, their also present at the negotiations table to finally participate in the future of their profession.
Thanks to the commitment of the composers who have teamed up, thanks to the professional associations of composers from all over Europe who have come together and finally thanks to the creation of the European Alliance (together film music composers, classical music and songwriters), the UFMC Switzerland is pleased to announce that this first mission is for a part accomplished.
Thanks to FFACE (Federation of Film Music Composers Europe) which UFMC is co-founder with France and Spain, ECSA (European Composer & Songwriter Alliance), composers now are in fact represented at the highest world level and became members of the Copyright World Summit.
World Copyright Summit
At this summit are present the biggest industrial groups, political bodies and international cultural management companies of copyright, or all the major makers of the market will settle "tomorrow."
Today, thanks to our alliance (ECSA), the composers are finally at the negotiating table. This is an important step for all authors and composers.
The UFMC Switzerland therefore welcomed to contribute (via FFACE and ECSA) that Switzerland and its members are actively involved in these developments.
The contribution of UFMC Switzerland
Since 2005, UFMC worked to promote and defend the swiss film music composers in various international festivals or in conferences, symposia and in the FFACE & ECSA meetings, and that, throughout Europe.
We have organized many events, concerts, lectures, master classes, film music awards or contests and attended a permanent political and economic actions needed.
As such, the members of the UFMC committee, annually receive not less than 5,000 emails from all around the world, and it mean a lot of folders to read, translate, analyze and then share and communicate with our members and partners.
As volunteers and without any financial support from the state, composers and members of the UFMC rolled up their sleeves to work with their European colleagues.
Today, the presence of the ECSA in the World Copyright Summit proves that our commitment and our daily efforts for years were right.
Future
To continue this great work in an efficient and sustainable way, it is essential that we are actively supported by the creators, members, partners, the cinema and audiovisual industry as well as the political and cultural institutions of our country.
Acknowledgements
Thank you to everyone, in Switzerland, who engage with us and support us. Without them, none of this would be possible.
We also thank warmly all our European colleagues to FFACE ECSA and allowing all the authors and composers to take advantage of a unified, active and effective.
We must also thank the work, experience and professionalism of Mr. Patrick Ager and ECSA office in Brussels for the treatment and coordination of all missions and international affairs of the profession, especially among many parliamentarians and international political figures.
